Notes for MARTHA J. WEAVER:
On Saturday, the family of Mrs. G. C. Thaxton, held a reunion at the old
homestead near
twelve children, six boys and six girls. The oldest was a boy and the next a
girl, and alternating all the way through. The ninth was still born and the
father and oldest boy died in 1885. These living children with their wives,
husbands, children and grandchildren, numbering 36 grandchildren, eight great-
grandchildren an a few other near relatives cast themselves together in and
around the old house in which they were reared and spent the day as one great
family. When the sun reached the meridian a long table was spread under the
broad beautiful oaks near
The old oaken bucket,
The iron bound bucket,
The moss covered bucket,
That hangs on the well.
From which a feast indeed was partaken, eighty two persons being the whole
number who partook of the tempting meal.
It was a day of pleasure, but as vacant chairs were seen and thoughts of those
gone before would arise sadness would fill our hearts and sometimes the willing
tears would freely flow. There were absent 14 grand children, 8 great
grandchildren and 25 dead, making the whole number emanating from the mother,
still living, 84 souls.

Mr. Weaver
Another of the old land marks of Butts county has fallen and as the leaves one
by one lose their hold upon the tree which bore them, so does man one by one
pass off of the state of action. “Uncle Billie,” as everybody knew and
mentioned him, had many friends as was evidence by the large concourse of people
who followed his remains to their last resting place. Mr. Weaver was a member
of the Baptist church in Jackson, and a bright Mason. He was buried at
Kimbell preached the funeral sermon and made some very touching remarks, having
been the personal friends of deceased since young manhood. Mr. Weaver was the
father of Mrs. J. F. Carmichael and Mr. Joe Weaver, of
children whose names we do not know. He leaves a young and affectionate wife,
also to mourn his death. All the relatives and friends have our sympathy in
their bereavement.
Jackson Argus – Week Of
Two cases will come before the ordinary’s court next Monday in which he is
disqualified. Both are Will cases. One is the Will of Mr. William Weaver and
the later is the Will of the late
probate and as Mrs. J. F. Carmichael is a daughter of Mr. Weaver and one of the
parties at interest Judge Carmichael is disqualified under the laws form passing
on the case.
In the other case
have been made to have another ordinary present who will preside in these cases.
This, perhaps, is the first disqualified case before the ordinary within sixteen
years and it is more unusual that two such cases should come up for a hearing at
the same time.

12. FRANCIS MARION8 WEAVER (JOSEPH E.7, WILLIAM R.6, EDWARD5, JOHN4, EDWARD3, JOHN2, JOHN1) was born 15 Aug 186632, and died
Notes for FRANCIS MARION WEAVER:
On Wednesday evening a difficulty arose between Mr. Marian Weaver, who lives
five miles south of town, and a farm hand named John Grubbs, and Mr. Weaver was
compelled to kill him in order, he says, to save his own live.
Coroner Hardy went out on yesterday, empanelled a jury and investigated the
case and returned a verdict of murder. No arrest has been made, but from what
we can learn Mr. Weaver will surrender and demand a preliminary trial.

Mr. Marion Weaver, who stands indicted for killing John Grubbs, col., and who
has been hiding since the bill was found, returned home some weeks ago in a
very critical condition, suffering from a severe spell of typhoid fever. He
notified the sheriff that he was read to surrender, and Mr. Beauchamp went out
to his home and placed him under guard, he not being able to be confined in
jail. He made application for bail, and on Saturday Judge Hunt granted it,
fixing the bond at $4,000. The papers have been signed, but Mr. Weaver is low
down and it will be quite a while before he will be out.

Mr. Marion Weaver, after one months illness with typhoid fever, died at the
home of his father, Mr. J. E. Weaver, on Friday, and his remains were laid to
rest in Fellowship cemetery on Saturday, after a funeral by Rev. J. T. Kimbell
To Mr. Weaver’s many relatives and friends this will be sad news. He was a
young man of much promise, and by industry and economy had secured a good home,
built a good dwelling and his prospects a year ago were very flattering. He
leaves a young wife and one little child besides his many relatives and friends
to mourn his death.
